Murray has over 35 years’ experience in environmental management, with the last 25 years working in consultancy. He is a Hearings Commissioner (Chair endorsed) and a qualified mediator. Murray is also a member of a number of Council Hearing Panels for Commissioners, and was a member of the Auckland Independent Hearings Panel Facilitation and Mediation Group from 2014-2016. He also has considerable experience as an expert witness before the Environment Court, boards of inquiry and at council hearings.

His years of experience have given him a detailed understanding of the practical application of the RMA, and he has had responsibility for preparing several district plans, completing major roading project investigations, carrying out feasibility studies, and securing resource consents for major projects.
